- Match the year range. Used yards file the 6.7 under different interchange numbers for different model-year ranges, and the 2019 update raised output. Give the supplier your VIN so the engine matches your truck's calibration.
- Pickup or cab and chassis? The 3500 Cab & Chassis and the 4500/5500 trucks used their own ratings of the 6.7. Tell the supplier exactly which truck it is going into.
- Ask about the turbo and exhaust brake. The variable geometry turbo doubles as the exhaust brake. Ask whether the turbo comes with the engine and whether the exhaust brake was working on the donor truck.
- Ask what's included. Long block only, or complete with turbo, injectors, EGR parts and harness.
- Get mileage, testing and warranty in writing. Ask for the donor vehicle's mileage, how the engine was tested, the warranty term and the freight cost to your ZIP before you pay.

Known 6.7 Cummins wear points
- Wikipedia describes the variable geometry turbo as an extremely common problem on the 6.7 ISB, usually noticed when the truck loses its exhaust brake. (Wikipedia: changes over the 5.9)

| Dodge / Ram 2500 and 3500 pickupYard donor records confirm 2500s from 2008, 2011–2012 and 2019–2020 | 2007.5 and newer |
Heavy-duty pickups are largely absent from the U.S. EPA vehicle records, and Wikipedia gives no year-by-year Ram table for the 6.7, so this table is kept to the one row both Wikipedia and used-yard donor records support. Wikipedia also names the 3500 Cab & Chassis and the 2008 4500/5500 chassis cabs (see the versions above). Wikipedia is not consistent on when the ISB name ended, so the supplier confirms the exact engine by VIN.
6.7 Cummins questions
How much does a used 6.7 Cummins engine cost?
Used-yard asking prices for a 6.7 Cummins typically ran $3,225 to $9,500 on October 21, 2026. That range runs from the lowest version's 25th percentile to the highest version's 75th percentile, across 3 versions (229 priced listings). Prices vary by version, mileage and shipping, so the supplier quotes your exact part.
How is the 6.7 Cummins different from the 5.9?
The 6.7 has a larger bore and stroke, a variable geometry turbo that also acts as the exhaust brake, and EGR plus a diesel particulate filter. Wikipedia notes the 5.9 common-rail was the last Ram diesel that did not need emissions equipment.
Is the B6.7 the same engine as the ISB 6.7?
Yes. Cummins renamed the ISB 6.7 as the B6.7; the changes over the years were mainly emissions equipment and some power ratings. The diesel B6.7 ended production in 2026, replaced by the B7.2.
What does a lost exhaust brake mean on a 6.7 Cummins?
On the 6.7 the variable geometry turbo also works as the exhaust brake, and Wikipedia says turbo problems are usually spotted when the exhaust brake stops working. Ask the supplier whether the turbo is included and how it was checked.
