Asking prices collected October 21, 2026 from U.S. used-yard listings and remanufacturer catalogs. A snapshot, not a quote.

Each used bar runs from the 25th to the 75th percentile of that version's asking prices, so half its listings fall inside it, and the dot marks the median. The supplier quotes your exact part, shipping and warranty.

Which 5.0 Coyote do you have?

Mustang GT 2011–2014 (Gen 1)

Port injection only, 11.0:1 compression. The 2013–2014 engines dropped the piston oil squirters and got a recalibrated PCM.

Mustang GT 2015–2017 (Gen 2)

Revised heads, valvetrain and connecting rods taken from the Boss 302, higher-lift camshafts and an intake manifold with CMC valves.

F-150 version (before 2018)

Tuned for torque: lower 10.5:1 compression, intake cams with less duration, cast-iron exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads revised for cooling. Not the same engine as the Mustang GT of the same years.

2018 and later (Gen 3)

Direct injection added alongside port injection, bore up from 92.2 to 93 mm, and sprayed-on cylinder liners in place of sleeves. Shared by the Mustang GT and F-150; the F-150's compression rose to 12.0:1.

Same family is not the same part. Engines and transmissions in one family can differ in electronics, mounts and accessories. The supplier confirms fit with your VIN before you buy.

Check before you buy a used 5.0 Coyote

  • Match the generation. A 2018-or-later Coyote adds direct injection, a larger bore and sprayed-on cylinder liners. Give the supplier your VIN so they match the generation.
  • Truck or car engine? Before 2018 the F-150 5.0 had its own compression ratio, intake cams and cast-iron exhaust manifolds. Used yards list F-150 and Mustang engines under different interchange numbers, so match the vehicle the engine came from.
  • Gasoline or CNG? Hollander's interchange catalog gives some 2016 and 2020 F-150 5.0s a separate CNG number. Tell the supplier which one your truck was built with.
  • Ask what's included. Long block only, or complete with intake, accessories and harness.
  • Get mileage, testing and warranty in writing. Ask for the donor vehicle's mileage, how the engine was tested, the warranty term and the freight cost to your ZIP before you pay.

Each row appears in Wikipedia, and the U.S. EPA vehicle records list the 5.0 in the Mustang and F-150 for every one of these years. EPA records do not separate Mustang trims, so the trim rows rely on Wikipedia's model years. The Australian Falcon GT and XR8 also used a supercharged Coyote, sold in Australia, so they are left off. Always confirm by VIN.

How much does a used 5.0 Coyote engine cost?

Used-yard asking prices for a 5.0 Coyote typically ran $2,000 to $8,125 on October 21, 2026. That range runs from the lowest version's 25th percentile to the highest version's 75th percentile, across 4 versions (275 priced listings). Remanufactured units were listed at $6,999 (3 offers). When did the 5.0 Coyote come out?

Ford first built it in 2010 for the 2011 model year, in the Mustang GT and the F-150. It was developed from Ford's Modular V8 and is assembled at the Essex Engine Plant in Windsor, Ontario.

What changed on the 5.0 Coyote in 2018?

Ford added direct injection alongside the existing port injection, enlarged the bore from 92.2 to 93 mm (taking displacement from 4,951 to 5,035 cc) and switched to sprayed-on cylinder liners. The Mustang GT and F-150 both got the update.

Is the F-150 5.0 the same engine as the Mustang GT 5.0?

Not before 2018: the 2011–2017 F-150 version has lower compression (10.5:1), intake cams with less duration and cast-iron exhaust manifolds. From 2018 both got the same update.
