Ram calls the truck version the BGE, for Big Gas Engine. It has a cast-iron block and heads shared with the Hellcat 6.2, and lower compression for regular fuel. It is limited to 5800 rpm in pickups and 4660 rpm with the Aisin transmission.

- Match the model-year range. Used yards file early and late Ram 6.4s, and pickup and chassis-cab engines, under different interchange numbers. Give the supplier your VIN.
- Automatic or manual? In cars, the 6.4 came with cylinder deactivation (MDS) only with an automatic transmission. Match what your vehicle was built with.
- Ask what's included. Long block only, or complete with intake, accessories and harness.
- Get mileage, testing and warranty in writing. Ask for the donor vehicle's mileage, how the engine was tested, the warranty term and the freight cost to your ZIP before you pay.

Car and SUV rows appear in both Wikipedia and the U.S. EPA vehicle records; where the two disagree on years, only the years both list are shown. Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks are not in EPA records, so that row rests on Wikipedia and used-yard records. Wikipedia also lists the 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs. Always confirm by VIN.
6.4 Hemi questions
How much does a used 6.4 Hemi engine cost?
Used-yard asking prices for a 6.4 Hemi typically ran $4,500 to $9,186 on October 22, 2026. That range runs from the lowest version's 25th percentile to the highest version's 75th percentile, across 4 versions (246 priced listings). Is the 392 Hemi the same as the 6.4 Hemi?
Yes, 392 cubic inches is 6.4 liters. Wikipedia notes that the production 6.4, codenamed Apache, shares few parts with the earlier 392 crate engine, so a crate 392 is a different engine.
Is the Ram 2500 6.4 the same engine as the Challenger 392?
No. The Ram Heavy Duty version (BGE) has a cast-iron block, heads shared with the Hellcat 6.2, dished pistons and 10.0:1 compression, against 10.9:1 in the SRT version. Give the supplier your VIN so they match the right one.
When did Ram start using the 6.4 Hemi?
From model year 2014 in the 2500 and 3500 pickups and the 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs. It became the standard gas engine in chassis cabs in 2016 and in 2500 and 3500 pickups in 2019.
