Asking prices collected October 22, 2026 from U.S. used-yard listings and remanufacturer catalogs. A snapshot, not a quote.

Each used bar runs from the 25th to the 75th percentile of that version's asking prices, so half its listings fall inside it, and the dot marks the median. The supplier quotes your exact part, shipping and warranty.

Which Toyota Corolla do you have?

2ZR-FE or 2ZR-FAE

Both are 1.8 L engines from the same family, but the 2ZR-FAE adds Valvematic. On the 2016 Corolla, used-yard listings give the two different interchange numbers (VIN digit U for the 2ZR-FE, P for the 2ZR-FAE).

XRS engines are separate parts

The 2005–2006 XRS used the 2ZZ-GE and the 2009–2010 XRS the 2.4 L 2AZ-FE. Used-yard listings give both their own interchange numbers.

Same code, different part

The 1ZZ-FE in a 2001 Corolla and the 1ZZ-FE in a 2005 Corolla carry different interchange numbers on used-yard listings, so a matching engine code alone does not prove fit.

Hybrid

The Corolla Hybrid's 1.8 engine is listed separately from the gasoline engines on this page. Tell the supplier if your car is a hybrid.

Same family is not the same part. Engines and transmissions in one family can differ in electronics, mounts and accessories. The supplier confirms fit with your VIN before you buy.

Check before you buy a used Toyota Corolla

  • Match the year range. Used-yard listings give each Corolla generation's engine its own interchange number, even when the engine code stays the same.
  • Check the 5th VIN digit. Hollander's Corolla labels split engines by the 5th VIN digit, for example U for the 2ZR-FE and P for the 2ZR-FAE on the 2016 car.
  • XRS, Eco or hybrid? The XRS, the LE Eco and the hybrid each used a different engine from the regular Corolla.
  • Get mileage, testing and warranty in writing. Ask for the donor car's mileage, how the engine was checked, the warranty term and the freight cost to your ZIP before you pay.

Toyota Corolla questions

How much does a used Toyota Corolla engine cost?

Used-yard asking prices for a Toyota Corolla typically ran $488 to $2,337 on October 22, 2026. That range runs from the lowest version's 25th percentile to the highest version's 75th percentile, across 7 versions (550 priced listings). Prices vary by version, mileage and shipping, so the supplier quotes your exact part.

Which engine is in my Toyota Corolla?

Most 1998–2008 Corollas have the 1.8 1ZZ-FE, 2009–2019 cars the 1.8 2ZR-FE (the LE Eco has the 2ZR-FAE), and 2020-on sedans either the 1.8 2ZR-FAE or the 2.0 M20A-FKS. The XRS used its own engine. Your VIN settles it.

Is a 2ZR-FAE the same as a 2ZR-FE?

No. Both are 1.8 L engines from the same family, but the 2ZR-FAE adds Valvematic, and used-yard listings give the two different interchange numbers.

Will a 1ZZ-FE from a 2001 Corolla fit a 2005?

Not necessarily. The engine code is the same, but the 1ZZ-FE listed for a 2001 Corolla and the one listed for a 2005 carry different interchange numbers on used-yard listings, so the supplier matches it by VIN.
