Asking prices collected October 22, 2026 from U.S. used-yard listings and remanufacturer catalogs. A snapshot, not a quote.

Each used bar runs from the 25th to the 75th percentile of that version's asking prices, so half its listings fall inside it, and the dot marks the median. The supplier quotes your exact part, shipping and warranty.

Which 6R80 do you have?

6R80 (2009–2010)

The first version, which replaced the 6R75 in the 2009 Expedition and added a Tow/Haul mode.

Source: Wikipedia: Ford Expedition, Wikipedia: Ford 6R transmission, history

6R80 (2011 on)

Revised for the 2011 model year for smoother shifts, chiefly by adding a one-way clutch for the 1–2 upshift and 2–1 downshift.

6R60 and 6R75 (not the same part)

Lighter-duty siblings. The 6R60 went in the 2006–2008 Explorer and Mountaineer V8, and the 6R75 in the 2007–2008 Expedition. Wikipedia's Mustang article says the 2011–2012 V6 Mustang used the 6R60, while the 6R article says 6R80, so a V6 Mustang must be confirmed by VIN.

Same family is not the same part. Engines and transmissions in one family can differ in electronics, mounts and accessories. The supplier confirms fit with your VIN before you buy.

Check before you buy a used 6R80

  • Which F-150? A 2009–2014 F-150 with the 4.6L 2-valve V8 has a 4-speed 4R75E, not a 6R80, and a 2017 3.5L EcoBoost has the 10R80. Your VIN settles it.
  • Before or after 2011? Ford revised the 6R80 for 2011 with a one-way clutch. Quote a unit from the same era as your truck.
  • Match engine and drive. Used-yard listings split the F-150's 6R80 by engine (3.5L EcoBoost, 3.7L, 5.0L, 6.2L) and by 2WD or 4WD. Ford calibrates each one for its engine, so give the supplier your VIN.
  • Get mileage, testing and warranty in writing. Ask for the donor vehicle's mileage, how the transmission was checked, the warranty term and the freight cost to your ZIP before you pay.

Each row is backed by two sources: Wikipedia's Ford 6R transmission article plus the vehicle's own Wikipedia article, or Hollander's parts catalog, whose 2010 Explorer, 2012 F-150 and 2014 Expedition listings name the 6R80. Where sources differ on years, the row shows the years they agree on. The 6R article also lists the 2009–2010 Mercury Mountaineer V8 and the 2015–2019 Ford Transit, which we could confirm from only one source. Confirm by VIN.

6R80 questions

How much does a used 6R80 transmission cost?

Used-yard asking prices for a 6R80 typically ran $445 to $3,825 on October 22, 2026. That range runs from the lowest version's 25th percentile to the highest version's 75th percentile, across 12 versions (935 priced listings). Remanufactured units were listed from $2,999 to $3,949 (46 offers). Prices vary by version, mileage and shipping, so the supplier quotes your exact part.

Which F-150 years have the 6R80?

2009 through 2017, except the 2017 3.5L EcoBoost and the 2009–2014 4.6L 2-valve V8. The 2018–2020 F-150 with the 3.3L V6 kept the 6R80. Confirm by VIN.

Is a 6R80 from a 5.0L F-150 the same as one from an EcoBoost?

Not necessarily. Ford says each 6R80 is optimized for the engine it is mated to, and Hollander gives each engine and drive its own interchange number. Quote the unit for your exact engine.

What fluid does a 6R80 use?

MERCON LV. Ford calls it filled for life, but Wikipedia notes a flush is recommended at 150,000 miles for Severe Duty use. The F-150 unit holds 13.1 US qt.
